Context
The company is an aircraft-engine manufacturer that produces engine parts and modules, assembles and tests engines, and provides maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). In summer 2022 I joined its project engineering team as an intern.
What I did
- Tracked assembly and MRO project schedules with MS Project and Gantt charts across aerospace programs.
- Entered and checked engineering data and bills of materials in Enovia PLM and SAP ERP.
- Supported FMEA documentation used in a supply-chain risk review.
- Learned the workflow of an engine MRO: disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly and test.
What I studied
Alongside the project work I studied how aerospace manufacturing works in general: precision machining and joining processes, measurement and inspection (such as CMM), and the project-management methods used in practice, including Gantt scheduling and PERT/CPM.
What I took away
In aerospace, the schedule, the data and the risk register are as important as the design itself: a single wrong BOM line or a missed dependency stops an engine from leaving the shop. It also confirmed my interest in working in high-compliance, AS9100-style environments.
